Women's Health and Managed Care Leadership Seminars Sponsored by the James Irvine Foundation |
|
The Women's Health and Managed Care Leadership Seminars is a series of seminars on women's health and managed care issues that brought together health care providers, researchers, community leaders, and women's health advocates in California. The goal of this project was to develop greater understanding and improved communication about the future of health services for women and the opportunities and challenges posed by changes in the health care delivery system, particularly the growth of managed care systems. The seminars addressed issues facing women's health advocates and providers and will increase their ability to communicate effectively about the health issues for women in managed care. Dissemination of information from the seminars will result in greater awareness of the implications for women of changes in the health care delivery system and greater ability to influence the health care system on women's behalf.
The Leadership Seminar Series builds on the Jacobs Institute's two-year project to define issues and monitor trends in women's health and managed care. The seminar series in California complements the ongoing work of the Institute, informing it with the rich and plentiful experiences of patients and providers in California, where there are many well-developed managed care plans. Founded in 1993, the Pacific Institute for Womens Health is dedicated to improving women's health and well-being locally and globally. The Institute takes a comprehensive approach to the complex realities of womens lives and works through applied research, advocacy, community involvement, consultation, and training. Working together, the Jacobs Institute of Womens Health and the Pacific Institute for Women's Health will help to inform public and policy debates over the implications of managed care for the health of women in California and the country as a whole. A summary paper of the series, "Women's Health and Manged Care in California: A Laboratory for the Nation," can be ordered for $7.50 per copy. To order, use the order form.
