January 15, 2001, Washington, DC - The Jacobs Institute of Women's Health will host its first Breakfast Seminar of 2001 on Tuesday, January 23, from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the Capitol Hilton in Washington, DC. The Seminar will focus on the issue of dietary supplements used by women.

Speaking at this event will be Rebecca Costello, PhD, Deputy Director of the Office of Dietary Supplements at the National Institutes of Health. Joining Dr. Costello will be Linda Golodner, President of the National Consumers League (NCL). Dr. Costello will discuss the safety and efficacy of dietary supplements commonly used by women. Ms. Golodner will discuss the results of the recent survey conducted by NCL on dietary supplements.

"More and more women are taking dietary supplements every day," commented Jacobs Institute Executive Director Martha Romans, "but we often lack basic information about their safety and effectiveness. We also can't be sure how these supplements might interact with other prescription medicines we take." The Jacobs Institute seminar will present "straight talk" about these and other related issues.

The Jacobs Institute of Women's Health is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge, practice, and understanding of women's health.
